Semrush launches official Claude connector
Semrush, an Adobe company, published its official Claude connector on August 26, 2026, opening its search and market intelligence datasets to Anthropic’s assistant for subscribers on two plan tiers, without exports or developer work. The connector gives paid subscribers access to the company’s live search and marketing data inside Claude, removing the need to export reports and upload them by hand. The connector is available to Semrush One and SEO Classic plan subscribers.

Native Integration Through Model Context Protocol
The Semrush connector now sits inside the Claude connector ecosystem as a native option. The mechanism underneath is the Model Context Protocol, the open standard Anthropic introduced in November 2024 and later handed to the Linux Foundation. MCP defines how a language model reaches an external system, discovers what that system can do, and pulls live records into a conversation.

The connector is built on Semrush MCP, or Model Context Protocol. Semrush’s developer documentation says MCP provides AI tools with secure access to its public APIs, and lists Claude alongside Claude Code, ChatGPT, Cursor and VS Code as supported destinations. The company describes it as its third Model Context Protocol integration with a major large language model.
Scale of Data Access
Semrush says its dataset contains 28.8 billion keywords, 43 trillion backlinks and 317 million LLM prompts. Those figures describe the scale of the data available through its tools; they do not mean every Claude request will query the entire database.

Users can ask for keyword strategy, backlink audits, competitor gap analysis and market research in a conversation, with Semrush data returned as part of the workflow. API requests made through MCP use the same API units as direct requests, according to the documentation.
Workflow Applications for SEO and Marketing Teams
Semrush says the integration is intended to move from insight to action in a single conversation. The connector enables conversational access to Semrush’s search intelligence without requiring users to navigate the platform’s interface or export data files.

Semrush also lists recurring workflows that can be automated through Claude, including monthly client reports, weekly toxic-link alerts and daily competitor-rank monitoring. The data can feed repeatable reporting and monitoring tasks for agencies and in-house teams, rather than stopping at a one-off answer.
Read-Only Access and Security Questions
Whether the connector can write anything back into a Semrush account is not stated. That distinction has organised the entire MCP debate in advertising. Meta opened its ad system to Claude and ChatGPT on April 29, 2026 with write access from day one, then opened the same server to any developer holding a Meta app on July 16, 2026.
Adform published 29 skills for its FLOW DSP in July, every one read-only. The X Ads MCP server documented one day before this announcement exposed 23 tools, ten of them writes. An SEO data connector sits at the low-risk end of that spectrum, but the omission is still an omission.
Implementation Details
Users can enable it on a paid Claude plan, approve access, and Claude can query and summarize Semrush data inside a chat by tagging @Semrush. Connectors require a paid Claude plan. The app itself is free to enable, but you need a paid Claude plan for connectors, and the data behind it is metered: MCP queries consume Semrush API units tied to your Semrush account.

In Claude Code or other agents, users can add the official remote endpoint https://mcp.semrush.com/v2/mcp instead. This provides an alternative integration path for developers working with AI coding assistants.
Broader Context of AI SEO Tools
The Semrush announcement comes as SEO and marketing platforms increasingly integrate with large language models through standardized protocols. The Model Context Protocol has become a common framework for connecting external data sources to conversational AI, with implementations spanning advertising platforms, design tools, and analytics services.
The connector’s immediate availability, with no phased rollout, suggests Semrush tested the integration extensively before the public release. The company has positioned the tool as part of a broader strategy to embed its data within AI-powered workflows used by digital marketers and SEO professionals.
