Anthropic Debuts Dynamic Workflows for Claude — 1,000 Agents

Anthropic released dynamic workflows for Claude Managed Agents in public beta on October 9, 2026, giving developers the ability to orchestrate large-scale autonomous tasks across up to 1,000 agents per workflow run. The feature allows an agent to write a workflow program that runs many agents in phases and combines their results, with the server running it in the background as a workflow run. The capability addresses workloads such as reviewing hundreds of documents or conducting repository-wide code analysis that can be distributed across multiple specialized agents.

How Dynamic Workflows Enable Multi-Agent Orchestration
Claude will write the plan and handle orchestration of up to 1,000 agents per run, representing a significant expansion from earlier research preview limits. To turn dynamic workflows on, developers set the agent’s multiagent field to {“type”: “multiagent_20261001”, “workflows”: {“type”: “enabled”}}, and the feature requires the managed-agents-2026-04-01 beta header.
Developers guide the agent through its system prompt to specify when to start a run, and can follow each run through workflow_run.* events on the session’s event stream. The architecture supports what Anthropic calls phased execution, where a lead agent divides tasks among specialized subagents, runs those assignments in phases, verifies findings, and merges the results.

Performance in Code Analysis Tasks
Anthropic demonstrated the feature’s capabilities with a bug-finding evaluation. In a 70-bug test on 116,000 lines of code, workflows found 66 out of 70 bugs across three runs versus 14 to 27 for a single agent. The company highlighted use cases including repository-wide bug hunts, migrations, security audits, performance reviews, and architecture analysis as well-suited to the workflow approach.

The official ClaudeDevs account on X shared a demonstration involving a legal task where an agent was asked to find change-of-control clauses in 300 contracts. The agent wrote a workflow with two phases: reading the contracts and reconciling the findings, which the server then executed in the background.

Token Consumption and Scoping Recommendations
Dynamic workflows are powerful and can use a lot of tokens, so Anthropic suggests starting with a scoped task. The company has not published detailed pricing specific to workflow runs, though the feature operates within the existing Claude Managed Agents infrastructure that launched in public beta in April 2026.

The workflows capability extends Anthropic’s broader Managed Agents platform, which provides hosted infrastructure for long-running autonomous agents. The hosted service supports persistent sessions, sandboxing, tool permissions and execution tracing for autonomous and multi-agent workflows. A May 19, 2026 update had previously added memory, outcomes and multi-agent orchestration to the public beta, setting the foundation for the October 9 dynamic workflows release.
Broader Context: Enterprise Adoption Shifts
The dynamic workflows announcement comes during a period of shifting enterprise adoption patterns for Claude. Meta and Microsoft are reportedly reducing employee use of Anthropic’s Claude while promoting internal or alternative coding assistants. One report indicates Meta’s Claude Code users fell from approximately 60,000 to 30,000, while Microsoft reduced planned per-employee Claude spending.
Separately, Anthropic paused two benefits of its Claude Startups program: a free year of Claude Team and a one-time $1,000 API credit. Previously redeemed benefits remain active, while some pending applications have been returned for review.
The company also recently made Claude Code Projects available to Pro and Max subscribers who had joined the waitlist. The feature requires a qualifying plan and, for coding work, a GitHub repository connected through Anthropic’s Claude GitHub App.
