How To Know When It's Time For A Career Change

Being able to stay in tune with your intuition and figure out when it’s time for a change can help you to save a lot of time and effort on a job that is no longer right for you. No job is a waste of time, even if you’ve been doing it for years. They all teach us something about ourselves and help to propel us closer to what we should really be doing. A job that was once perfect for you may not be perfect for you in 10, 5, or even 2 years. People change and so do interests and passions. Making a career change can be a smart and normal thing to do!

Below, you’ll figure out how to know when it’s time for a career change. Take a look if you’re not so sure:

Ask Yourself: Change Of Job Or Change Of Career?

Often the urge to change jobs emerges during a midlife crisis or upheaval of some type, or you may just be tired of where you are. The first thing you’ll want to figure out is whether you really need a change of career, or you simply want to change jobs. These things are very different! You might consider moving to a similar career with a different employer, or doing something entirely different in a different industry. You should be able to figure out whether it’s the workplace you’re in, or whether you’re in the wrong industry altogether.

You Constantly Feel Burned Out

If you constantly feel burned out, then you likely have lost your passion for things you used to like, too. Perhaps you used to enjoy the gym or even arts and crafts. When you’re burned out at work, you may find that the joy these things once gave you goes away. How you feel the rest of the time can be a big indicator that you need a change.

You Can Always Find Something To Complain About

This could be a mindset thing, but if you’re truly struggling to find the good in your job and can only find things to complain about, it’s a good sign you need to make a change. The things you don’t like can help you to figure out what you want to do next, too.

You’ve Spoken Up And Nothing Has Changed

Maybe you’ve approached your boss and manager with something they could do to help you and nothing has changed. When employers don’t care about their employees and their happiness, it’s a sign a change is needed.

You’re Ready To Work Towards What You Want

You may need to begin working towards what you want in your own time. For instance, you may decide to do a data analytics online MBA degree. Learning in your own time is a great way to work towards a new career.

You Feel Unproductive/You’re Performing Poorly

Maybe you’re just not getting anything done, and the things you do get done aren't to a great standard. If you can’t muster the strength, a change should be on the cards.

You’re Just Bored

Maybe you’re just bored and you don’t really care anymore. Even if you find your job easy, boredom is a sign something must change

Will you make a career change?
