Business Supplies for a Retail Store

If you run a retail store, you can’t just show up and expect to make money. You need to have the right supplies so that you and your employees can hold inventory, help customers, and take payments. Whether you own a boutique or manage a location of a large chain, here are a few business supplies your store needs.

Computers

Of course, you’ll need at least one or two computers for your store. You should have a back office where you can communicate with any other managers in the area or place orders with vendors. That way, you don’t have to rely on your phone or do those things after you get home from work. You don’t need to spend a ton of money on a computer, and you can use an old one for years. But having a computer for you, and possibly the checkout, is essential to getting work done in the modern era.

Racks and Display Boxes

If you sell clothes, you should have clothing racks to put around the store. Consider how much inventory you want to put on your floor at once. Then, you can get enough clothing racks to fill the space. Also, look for racks you can easily move. That way, you can adjust your store layout if you decide you don’t like it. If your racks have a lock, you can keep them in place as customers browse, but you don’t have to struggle as much to change things up.

On the other side, if you are selling valuable accessories like jewelry, you should definitely use display boxes or cases that can help present your product, but also protect it.

Payment Processor

You should also consider how you will take payments. Credit card processing in Michigan and other states is becoming one of the most popular payment methods. If you can’t take card payments, you could cost your business a lot of money. But you should also have at least one cash drawer in case someone wants to pay with cash. You can also set up a mobile payment system for things like Google Pay and Apple Pay. That way, you don’t have to turn away customers for a lack of payment.

Intercom/Walkie Talkies

If your store is quite large, you may want to invest in walkie talkies or an intercom system so that employees can easily communicate with each other. That way, you don’t have to run all around the store to find a particular worker. You can use it to talk to your employees, and they can use it to ask each other questions. Then, you can all help customers more efficiently, even if someone doesn’t know the answer.

Labels

You should also have labels and a label maker on hand so that you can clearly show prices on the item tags. If you decide to put something on sale, you can add a new tag to it to reflect the new price. Of course, you can use sales signs, but it can help customers and cashiers to have the price on the item itself. That way, you don’t have to worry about any confusion.

A retail store can be hard to run but also rewarding. But before you open up, make sure you have some business essentials so you are as productive as possible. Keep these in mind next time you need to order business supplies.
