Anthropic launches commission-free Claude Marketplace
Anthropic launched the Claude Marketplace earlier this month, an e-commerce platform allowing enterprise customers to purchase third-party software built on its large language models. The store features services that use the company’s eponymous large language model series, with initial partners including Snowflake, GitLab, Harvey AI, Rogo, Replit, and Lovable. The marketplace aims to streamline enterprise AI procurement by consolidating purchases under existing Anthropic spending commitments.

Simplified Procurement Model
Anthropic positions Claude Marketplace as a way for enterprises to simplify software procurement, allowing companies to buy products through the AI provider’s new store instead of processing invoices from multiple cloud services. Enterprises can use a portion of their Anthropic spending commitments to finance purchases, creating a unified billing approach similar to marketplaces operated by Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure.
Significantly, Anthropic won’t take a cut from Claude Marketplace purchases, according to Bloomberg. This differentiates the offering from competitors. AWS and Azure both charge marketplace sellers a percentage of revenue, typically between three and 15 per cent, making Anthropic’s commission-free approach notable. For Anthropic to waive that entirely signals that deepening enterprise lock-in is currently worth more than marginal transaction revenue.
Strategic Positioning and Competition
The marketplace launch reflects Anthropic’s broader strategy to position Claude as a central enterprise platform. Anthropic is positioning Claude Marketplace as a more centralized way for enterprises to procure certain Claude-powered partner tools. The company drew comparisons to established cloud marketplaces, with the model openly comparing to the software marketplaces run by Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure.
The move comes amid growing competition in the AI marketplace space. ChatGPT launched its own app store, though three months in, it’s unclear exactly how many people use ChatGPT Apps, particularly in enterprises. Other competitors have emerged as well, with Lightning AI launched an AI Hub last year following similar moves from AWS and Hugging Face.
Enterprise Focus and Partner Ecosystem
Snowflake and GitLab, which are both publicly traded, are the largest industry players to have signed up for the Claude Marketplace so far. The marketplace focuses on enterprise-grade applications across various business functions. The tools available through the platform cover a range of enterprise functions, including software development, legal analysis, financial research and enterprise data processing.
Anthropic spokesperson explained the marketplace’s value proposition, stating that partner applications provide specialized capabilities beyond Claude alone. Harvey isn’t just Claude with a legal prompt, but rather a purpose-built platform built for how legal teams actually work, with the domain expertise, workflow integrations, compliance infrastructure, and institutional knowledge that enterprises require.
Given that Claude Marketplace is only open to Claude-powered applications, the launch may create an additional incentive for startups to integrate Anthropic models into their software, potentially expanding the company’s partner ecosystem.
Claude Code Developments and Security Concerns
The marketplace launch coincides with increased attention on Claude Code, Anthropic’s AI coding assistant. Digital agencies have reported significant productivity gains, with the tool reducing development time for React and Next.js projects. However, security researchers have identified emerging threats targeting Claude Code users.
Cybersecurity firms discovered attackers using fake installation pages for Claude Code, promoted through Google ads, to distribute malware. These attacks employ what researchers term “InstallFix” tactics, tricking users into running malicious terminal commands disguised as legitimate installation procedures. The threat involves malware like Amatera Stealer being deployed through social engineering techniques.
Separately, Microsoft Azure CTO Mark Russinovich demonstrated Claude’s capabilities in reverse-engineering legacy code to identify vulnerabilities. He showed the AI analyzing 40-year-old Apple II code to find security flaws, highlighting both defensive applications and potential dual-use concerns for billions of legacy microcontrollers in deployed systems.
Access and Availability
Organizations that already have agreements with Anthropic can access the marketplace through their account teams, while companies building products on Claude can apply to participate through a partner waitlist. The platform is currently available in limited preview as Anthropic expands its enterprise offerings.
The company plans to bring more third-party software products to the store over time, potentially expanding into additional categories. The marketplaces operated by cloud providers offer access to not only software but also datasets and professional services, and bringing such offerings to Claude Marketplace could make Claude more useful.
