Claude Fable 5.1 on AWS; Amazon Linux Preview & AI Cert
AWS highlighted a series of major platform updates in its September 7, 2026 weekly roundup, headlined by the availability of Claude Fable 5.1 on Amazon Bedrock and Claude Platform on AWS. The announcement also introduced a public preview of Amazon Linux 2027 and a new AWS Certified AI Business Strategist certification, marking significant expansions in both AI model access and cloud infrastructure.
Claude Fable 5.1 became generally available on AWS on September 1, 2026, bringing frontier intelligence for ambitious tasks across coding, scientific research, and enterprise workflows to AWS customers. The model represents a significant upgrade in Anthropic’s AI capabilities, particularly for complex, long-running tasks.
Claude Fable 5.1 Features and Capabilities
Claude Fable 5.1 is built for long-running, high-stakes work that runs for hours and spans many applications. According to AWS, the model can own more of a software project on its own, handling features across an entire codebase, code review, and performance work over extended sessions.
Fable 5.1 is a clear improvement over Claude Fable 5, providing better judgement on ambiguous work and fewer confident wrong answers. The model includes a 1 million token context window and can generate up to 128,000 tokens of output, with adaptive thinking capabilities that remain always active.
The pricing structure maintains the same headline rates as Fable 5, at $10 per million input tokens and $50 per million output tokens. However, cache read rates have dropped 75% to $0.25 per million tokens, which Anthropic estimates will reduce costs by approximately 25% for typical workloads and up to 45% for complex coding and agentic tasks.
New Data Retention and Safety Policies
Anthropic has designated Fable 5.1 a Covered Model, a category of Claude models that carry additional data retention, safety review, and access policies wherever they’re offered. Claude Fable 5.1 is subject to data retention for up to 30 days and human review by Amazon personnel, with a new aws_review data retention mode.
In this mode, AWS retains customer prompts and outputs for human safety review within the AWS boundary. The provider_data_share mode is legacy, and Amazon Bedrock does not share customer data with the model provider.
Enterprise Frontier Safeguards (EFS), built in partnership between AWS and Anthropic, will let eligible customers use Covered Models while keeping their data in a cloud environment they control. For EFS-eligible customers, zero data retention options are available for internal use through December 31, 2026, with additional safeguards planned for later in the year.
Amazon Linux 2027 Preview Launch
Amazon Linux 2027 (AL2027) entered public preview last week as the next version of the Amazon Linux operating system. It runs on kernel 7.1+, purpose-built for cloud environments. The preview allows AWS customers to test the new operating system ahead of its general availability.
AWS Certified AI Business Strategist Certification
AWS also announced a new certification program aimed at business leaders working with AI technologies. The AWS Certified AI Business Strategist certification is designed to validate skills in aligning AI initiatives with business objectives and implementing AI strategies within organizations.
Access and Availability
Customers have two ways to access Claude Fable 5.1: Amazon Bedrock and Claude Platform on AWS. The model is available across multiple regions and can be accessed through the Amazon Bedrock console playground or programmatically via API.
Claude Mythos 5.1, the same underlying model as Claude Fable 5.1 with its full cyber and bio capabilities retained for cybersecurity and biology research, is available with limited access to vetted organizations through Anthropic’s trusted-access programs.
