Facebook Recent Changes Outlined

Facebook has been on the move in many ways in the past 4-6 weeks!

If you've blinked, you may have missed a few updates.  Mari Smith created a great Facebook post outlining the key changes, and that post is embedded below.  I'll give you my take on the key changes and what they mean below her embedded Facebook post.

A number of the changes have to do with advancements to Facebook Ads management.  This is not a surprise as this is Facebook's revenue area and yet at the same time these are welcome changes as they make managing ads easier and targeting more effective. Below is the recap of the 8 changes...

8 Facebook Recent Changes in 2014

① MANAGE ADS ON THE GO

② EVENT ADS

③ “BUY” BUTTON ON ADS

④ BANDWIDTH TARGETING

⑤ NEWS FEED AD FREQUENCY DOUBLES

⑥ CROSS-DEVICE REPORTING

⑦ FACEBOOK ADS RESTRUCTURE

⑧ MEASURE 20% TEXT IN ADS

My favorite: Manage Ads on the Go

iphone5-adsDefinitely a favorite is the ability to manage Ads on mobile devices.

I'm in the camp  that says Facebook Ads definitely have a place in the online marketing mix of savvy marketers.  The ability to target key demographics and reach your ideal audience with Facebook Ads is simply second to none.  Facebook Ads are a powerful tool and being able to manage them on the go is a needed asset.

Facebook also added features including the ability to run targeted ads on Events and what I think is more significant, enabling a "Buy" button on ads.  This continues the trend toward more friction-less social commerce.  Right now there are still multiple clicks in the buying process but with Facebook authentication growing on websites, we are moving toward the day where a website that has Facebook oAuth (open authentication) integrated, will allow Facebook users to click the "Buy" button and immediately make the purchase in 1 click (think of the Amazon 1 click option, except on Facebook!)

A key to this is the security of the web, but as Dennis Yu outlines in this Social Fresh post, sites are moving closer to this all the time with secure browsing (https) becoming mainstream on many sites.  The barriers from the past related to speed, loading slower, and even indexing by search engines are gone.  All of this paves the way for more seamless sharing of information between sites and Facebook, and more options for "Buy Now" on Facebook.

So be on the lookout for these "now implemented" or "soon coming" new features from Facebok!

Do any stand out to you as more important to you than others?
