Mobile Tips: Facebook Instant Articles and Google AMP

Lets's define them: Facebook Instant Articles and Google Accelerated Mobile Pages.

Facebook Instant Articles:  This is a newer mobile format developed by Facebook which is used to serve pages rapidly to visitors accessing website content from the Facebook mobile app.

Google AMP, as well, is a mobile format developed by Google, which can be delivered to visitors accessing your content from Google, Twitter, LinkedIn, and also Pinterest mobile apps.

Why should I optimize my content for Facebook Instant Articles and Google AMP?

The Facebook Instant Articles and Google AMP formats are built to load instantly on mobile devices and designed for higher engagements, resulting in improved News Feed reach and they also have great benefits for Search Engine Optimization, including natural page rank in Google.

How Instant Articles and AMP can increase traffic and discoverability:

Search engine optimization and social media discovery are extremely important when it comes to growing traffic. Both the Facebook News feed and Google PageRank rely on performance metrics such as page load times and visitor engagements to rank articles.  Instant Articles, in particular looks to engagement and Google to page load as a ranking factor.

Native mobile formats such as Facebook Instant Articles and Google AMP offer new and powerful advantages when it comes to page performance. These mobile formats preload content and cache media files on their servers, allowing articles to load instantly for readers on mobile devices when they are accessed.

Boost engagement and shares

Facebook Instant Articles and Google AMP offer opportunities for true mobile experiences to captivate and engage readers. These systems allow for a number of advanced features specifically designed for mobile content such as audio captions, interactive maps, tilt-to-pan photos, and more.

Both Facebook Instant Articles and Google AMP offer specific layouts designed to maximize social engagements, for Facebook it can increase engagement including Likes and Comments, while for Google it can increase pages consumed and time on site.

Why the Halftime theme Mike?

I’m an Indiana Hoosier native where basketball is the top sport. Every team heads to the locker room at halftime to evaluate the first half and create an updated plan for the second half. That plan includes adjustments based on reviewing what worked and what didn't. The “halftime” is a key review point where the game stops, the team pulls away to huddle in the locker room away from the fans, and they come out prepared and ready to succeed in the second half.

That’s what this podcast is all about, taking the time to pull away for a bit to evaluate, learn, and set some strategies for your business to succeed in the second half. Join me by subscribing and let me be your “business halftime” to help you find great success going forward!
