A Facebook check-in lets you share your current location with your friends via the Facebook app. You can do this both on the desktop and the mobile app.

Using the check In option in the Facebook mobile app, you can notify your loved ones of your location from a smartphone. In addition, by using the Check-In feature, you can let others know what you are up to as you go about your day.
Now, let’s see how to check in with Facebook on desktop and mobile devices.
On your computer, launch a web browser, then go to the Facebook website. If you haven't already, log into your Facebook account.
At the top of your Facebook page, click on the new status box with the placeholder "What's on Your Mind." You can do this to add a new post to your account.
Afterward, a "create post" window will open featuring a text box with the same "what's on your mind placeholder." Below the text box, you will see "add to your post" and a few icons beside it. The check-in option is represented with the map pin icon.
Once you have clicked on the check-in icon, Facebook will open another window with the heading "search for location." In this window, you will see a search bar with the placeholder "Where are you?" The search feature has an autocomplete option. So, as you are typing, it will bring a suggestion of where you are. Once you see your location, click on it.
It will take you back to the "create a post" window, which will now have your location tagged. Once you are ready to publish your post, click the blue "post" button, and you are good to go.
This guide will be for both Android and iOS devices. Although the app has a slightly different interface on each device, the procedure for checking in is pretty much the same.
First, open your Facebook App and log in to your account. You'll see a field with a "what's on your mind" placeholder. Below that field are three options with icons, but the one on the right is "check in" with a map marker icon.
Once you tap the check-in option, your app will prompt a modal to request permission to access your location for precision. Select “allow” in the modal options to allow Facebook access to your location.
Afterward, you will see a new window with the heading "add location" and a search box. You can type your location in the search box or select from the suggestions list.
Then, you will be back to the "create post" window, where you can type in the "what's on your mind" field. You can attach a photo or tag your friends if you want.
To publish your post, click on "post" in the top right corner of your screen.
Remember that when you check in, Facebook will post a public update about it so that anyone on Facebook can see it. Also, note that it is impossible to undo a check-in once you have attached it to a post. The only thing you can do is delete the post.
