Ways to Succeed in Work and Life

ways-to-succeed-in-work-and-life

Some Do’s and Don’ts on Life and:

  • Starting a new job
  • Being a good team member
  • Adding value to people and situations

(Not in any order)

1. If you want to get ahead, become an acute observer of people and what is happening around you.

2. Your first agenda in a new job is to become connected to the team, not to push your ideas.

3. REALLY listen.  Do not try to show off your knowledge (if you are skilled it will become known naturally over time).  Listen to learn, listen to value the other person, listen to understand what is important to the one speaking.

[Tweet "REALLY listen. Do not try to show off your knowledge (if you are skilled it will become known)"]

4. Evaluate everything mentally - Reflect on, evaluate assumptions, think outside the box about solutions and possible outcomes.

5. Be a resource and help to your peers.  They make or break your work/life experience. How are you adding value to them?

6 Ask for permission to give your suggestion...and let it be just that, a suggestion.

7 Invite feedback and ask for input when making decisions. The larger the decision and the more people it will impact, the more input should be gotten from those it will impact.

8 Do all you can to help your boss/leader succeed.  How can you make their life better and easier?  You win when others win through your help.

9 Be available! This is an asset you can bring to your company and friends.  This is a way you can win and bring value to others by pitching in. Within hours and outside of hours.

[Tweet "Be available! This is an asset you can bring. This is a way you can win & bring value to others."]

10 On entering a new situation...job or prospective business….watch, listen, and learn.  Learn who the key decision-maker is, what roles are people playing, what their pain point is and what a solution to them will look like.

11 Always address the client’s pain!  Always be ready to show empathy for your team members.  It’s not nearly about having all the answers so much as it is about making people feel heard and understood.

[Tweet "It’s not nearly about having all the answers so much as it is about making people feel heard and understood."]

12 It’s OK to ask for help.  Be sure to show appreciation for it.  This can bond you to the team (as long as you don’t don’t ask continually...it must be balanced with giving.)

13 Be organized and meet your deadlines.  If you for some reason won’t make one, identify it early to others to see if there can be a modified plan put in place.

[Tweet "Be organized and meet your deadlines! "]

14 Communicate often, early, concisely, and with an attitude of being a value-adding contributor.  Have a bias for action and a bias for communication.

15 Pursue excellence! Double-check your work while being efficient.  Productivity with excellence will enable you to win friends and clients.
