What Can Horse Racing Fans Expect In 2022?

Horse Racing Fans

The end of another year of horse racing action is quickly approaching. This means interest will soon turn towards what we can expect to see on track in 2022.

It is likely to be another fascinating year of racing around the globe. There are no shortage of stories set to play out in front of our very eyes. But, what can racegoers expect to see throughout 2022?

Intriguing Battle In January

The first huge Grade 1 of the season in the United States takes place on January 29th as the Pegasus World Cup takes place at Gulfstream Park. It already looks to be a fascinating contest on paper. However, we only know two of the runners that will be potentially targeting the race. Defending champion Knicks Go will line up for the final time of his career in the Pegasus World Cup. He looks to become the first horse to win the race on two occasions.

His form is as strong as it could possibly be, as he won the season-defining Breeders’ Cup Classic at Del Mar in November. Life Is Good is finally back, and back to his very best. He will be an interesting rival to the defending champion. The three-year-old laid down his claims when winning the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile at Del Mar. This is the same race Knicks Go won 12 months ago before landing the lucrative Pegasus World Cup.

Triple Crown Takes Centre Stage

For the American-trained horses, all of the attention will be on the first leg of the Triple Crown at Churchill Downs. The Kentucky Derby is watched by millions around the world. It remains the most famous American horse race of them all. Controversy still surrounds the 2021 running of the race. As a result of that, Bob Baffert at present will be unable to enter any horses for the running in 2022.

Despite that, Corniche remains the selection at the top of the betting, as the two-year-old looked a potential world beater when winning the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile.

However, Jack Christopher will be the ante-post selection for many, as he was scratched from the Juvenile through injury. He still boasts the bets pre-Breeders’ Cup form of any horse in his age group. Tiz The Bomb could be the most fascinating selection at the top end of horse racing online betting.

The two-year-old has been dominant on the turf, winning both the G2 Castle & Key Bourbon Stakes and Kentucky Downs Juvenile Mile Stakes. Connections could look to see whether that form transfers onto the dirt.

Very Special Royal Ascot

Royal Ascot has long been a special occasion for British racing fans, including Her Majesty The Queen. However, the event will take on extra significance this year. Especially, as the Queen celebrates her Platinum Jubilee. Numerous events throughout the year will be taking place. But the Queen making appearances throughout the Ascot festival will be evident. The Queen could have excellent chances of a winner throughout the week, with two-year-old Reach For The Moon already being touted as a potential Classic horse.

Tactical is also likely to return to the Ascot track next year, having given the Queen a winner at the meeting in 2020. However, the most interesting race of the meeting will be the Gold Cup. Stradivarius had long been the most dominant horse in the stayers’ division, but his quest for a fourth straight success in the Gold Cup came up short as he was beaten by Subjectivist. There is also a new name on the block now. Trueshan looks to finally land the Gold Cup, having beaten Stradivarius on three occasions to date, including the season-ending G2 Long Distance Cup at Ascot.
