It's early in 2015. Did you set some fitness goals for the year?
One of the biggest roadblocks to fitness for the business person is time.
Running a business takes a lot of time and if you're not careful it can creep in on other things in life, like health, fitness, and family.
In this episode I want to look at one way to find time to fit in exercise. I've been on both sides of it, not doing any exercise, and for the past year being focused on a efficient fitness routine.
Your health and fitness is important! It's important because it can help you work better and ultimately live better.
If you know me, you know I go hard. I work hard, and have been known to work long. And, truth be told, I haven't always made time for exercise. In fact, I had gained over 20 pounds less than 2 years ago. I was "puffy" and out of shape!
No longer!
I'm down to my college athletics weight now, and I do it pretty much in 15 minutes a day of exercise.

I use Sworkit for my workouts. It's available on the iTunes and Google Play Stores.
Sworkit is a workout app that provides guided, video-based workouts that you can do anywhere and anytime. What I like about Sworkit is the variety of workouts and the ability to focus a workout on a certain area including "Full Body", "Upper Body", "Core Strength", and "Lower Body" as well as "type" such as Strength, Cardio, Yoga & Pilates, Stretching, and Custom. One of the beautiful aspects of Sworkit is that it requires no gear or weights but I can guarantee that it can give you a great workout.
After downloading the app and loading it you are presented with a quick an easy decision to select the focus of your workout (as noted before: Strength, Cardio, Yoga & Pilates, Stretching or Custom). From there you narrow down to the part of the body to focus on (such as Full Body or Core Strength, etc.) and finally select the duration to workout such as 15 minutes with ability to go up, down, or set a precise length. With that, you are started!
The app does a good job of leading your through the workout. The video shows the exercise to do, the countdown timer is always visible, and the app gives audible commands to alert you that the a exercise is nearing completion time and what exercise is next. I usually set it to 5 second transitions between exercises and find that the app varies the routines so that even if I do Full Body Strength workouts for days in row the routines are different.
Sworkit has a free version, called "Sworkit Lite" and there is a Pro version for the value price of $1.99. When short on time, I've even narrowed down to a 12 minute workout and can attest that I get a workout! if you want to work on your abs, go for the Core workout for 15 minutes, you'll feel the burn!
So, as with any app it's only as good as how often you use it. Sworkit helps me there to by allowing me to set a reminder on my phone. At 5:45 a.m. I can be notified that, "Hey, it's time to workout!" which is a nice additional feature.
I've tried a variety of fitness and circuit training apps and have stayed with Sworkit. I use it at home and on the go as way to keep myself in shape and the variety of options allows me to mix-up my workout activities and muscle group focus areas.
This is a great one for the abs! More than just a situp, this one works a fuller range of your core muscles.
Another core exercise that works! This takes balance but really works your abs.
Yes, just like Clark Kent except you are on your belly on the ground. Lift your arms and legs up simultaneously, and do repetitions of this for 30 seconds. Looks funny, works you hard in reality!
This is a great cardio exercise that gets the heart rate up while also working core muscles.
Seriously, the core program is powerful. I can guarantee you that if you do a least 15 minutes in the Strength area focused on the Core, you will feel it burn in your abs and you'll have a powerful core workout! I talk more about my routine in the podcast.
So, yes, there's really no excuse now for not getting some exercise even if you are a road warrior! Smartphone users can download the app from their store of choice by going to http://www.sworkit.com.
